Fall for the Bruce Trail!

By on 169

While there’s never a bad time to hike the spectacular Bruce Trail, late summer/early autumn is one of the best.  While the breezes are still balmy but the first few leaves have begun to change colour, you’ll have the best of all possible worlds.

The Bruce Trail, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, stretches 885 km and is clearly marked with white rectangular blazes painted on trees, rocks and posts. If that’s not enough for you, you’ll find an additional 400 km of side trails marked with blue blazes, if you’re feeling like a little detour.  For those who love to feel that they’re going to finish what they start, here are some interesting Bruce Trail factoids:

1. If you hiked eight hours a day, covering approximately 30km at a time, you could complete the entire Trail, end-to-end, in thirty days.  Note: Although there are places to camp along the Trail, some are more rugged than others, so you’d need to be packing all your gear and planning ahead to find workable spots.  Most people who do an end-to-end hike work with organized hiking clubs whose contact information can be found by visiting www.brucetrail.org

2. Many hikers prefer to do the Trail piece by piece, over the course of many seasons.  Some have taken as long as 60 years to finish.

3. Hikers can arrange to receive badges in recognition of having completed various sections of the Trail.

Again, information can be found at www.brucetrail.org and Rockway Conservation Area
