Old Fort Erie: Battle of Culloden, 1746 and Siege of Fort Erie, War of 1812

By on 88

Battle of Culloden, 1746

Old Fort Erie was the site for the recent re-enactment of the Battle of Culloden. The Battle of Culloden was a struggle for the Monarchy of Britian and took place in Northern Scotland in 1746. Old Fort Erie provides a good location for this re-enactment because of the similarities that existed between this battle and the War of 1812. Siege of Fort Erie, 1814

The Siege of Fort Erie was by far the bloodiest field battle of the War of 1812, with more than 3,000 British troops killed or wounded.  Each year that important historic event is remembered by War of 1812 re-enactors who bring the siege to life at the old Fort.

This year will be more exciting than ever before, as the Siege events will be one of the most important events on the War of 1812 bicentennial calendar.  Plan to be a part of this exciting weekend, which will feature not only tours of the Fort and the surrounding camps, but also Major Buck’s surrender to the American General Brown (yes…we won the war but lost this battle), and the final explosion of the Fort itself.

This year, the Siege of Fort Erie re-enactment will be held on August 11 and 12 at 350 Lakeshore Rd. in Fort Erie, Ontario.  The Fort is just 30 kilometers south of Niagara Falls, near the Peace Bridge.  For more information, call (905) 871-0540 or visit http://www.niagaraparks.com/old-fort-erie/
