The Brock University Film Society (BUFS) has commenced the 2013 / 2014 season of film viewings that would otherwise not hit the silver screen in Niagara. This organization is run by the Department of Communications, Popular Culture and Film and offers the local community an opportunity to see festival, foreign and historic films.

Sept. 25 – BLUE JASMINE
(Woody Allen, US, rated 14A, 98 min.)
A New York socialite finds herself at sea after her financier husband crashes and burns, so she flies to San Francisco to stay with her sister while she tries to put herself back together. With Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin. View trailer.

Oct. 2 – MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
(Joss Whedon, US, rated 14A, 109 min.)
The much talked-about adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic rom-com, shot in only twelve days at Whedon’s house in Southern California. Starring Whedon standbys Amy Acker, Alexis Denisoff, and Nathan Fillion. View trailer.

Oct. 9 – BLANCANIEVES
(Pablo Berger, Spain/France/Belgium, rated PG, 104 min.)
The fairy tale of Snow White is recast in 1920s Spain, with the hard-done-by step-daughter teaming up with her seven trusty companions to make her mark as a bullfighter. View trailer.

Oct. 23 – THE WAY, WAY BACK
(Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, US, rated PG, 103 min.)
A bashful teen makes an unlikely friend in the manager of a water park while trying to survive a vacation with his mother’s new boyfriend. With Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Alison Janney, and Sam Rockwell. View trailer.

Nov. 13 – THE HUNT
(Thomas Vinterberg, Denmark, rated 18A, 115 min.)
From the director of The Celebration comes this fiercely gripping story of a teacher whose quiet life is destroyed by a false accusation. Mads Mikkelsen (A Royal Affair, Hannibal) won Best Actor at Cannes in 2012 for his performance. View trailer.
