Exciting War of 1812 Events for 2014

By on 0

It has been 200 years since the War of 1812 began and the Niagara 1812 Legacy Council has done a spectacular job at immersing us into the lifestyle and experiences of soldiers and civilians during that time.

On April 14th, the full event schedule for 2014 was revealed. The first Signature Event will be The Honouring, which is a native performance done by the Kaha: Wi Dance Theatre. The Honouring is a story of native allies with stunning movement, rythm, sond and video. This performance will be held at Fort Niagara in Youngstown, New York on June 28 & 29.

For July 5 & 6, the Legacy Council has teamed up with the Niagara Parks Commission to bring us the Battle of Chippawa and Battle of Lundy’s Lane. The Battle of Chippawa Re-Enactment will take place on July 5, the actual 200 year anniversary of the battle, with a commemorative ceremony before and after. The Battle of Lundy’s Lane Re-Enactment will follow on Sunday and if you are looking for re-enactor’s registration information, contact jhill@niagaraparks.com.

An exciting community event for the Battle of Lundy’s Lane will happen on July 25. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event to truly experience War of 1812 history. There will be 2 starting points, approximately 2.5 km from the battlefield, and participants will follow the old Portage Road as combatants did 200 years ago. Once you have reached the destination, the Next Company Theatre will display an incredible performance that draws you into the middle of the action and leaves you with a true to life experience of the war and peace that occured.

On August 9 & 10, you can look forward to one of the largest annual re-enactments in Canada, the Siege of Fort Erie. This is one of the bloodiest events that took place on Canadian soil and definitely should not be missed.
