Last evening the Jack Gatecliff Arena saw NHL Greats, Niagara Ice Dogs, Brock Badgers and Members of Parliament take to the ice for a hockey match to make history. Who won? It was a hands down victory for the United Way, as organizer Rick Dykstra proudly announced more than $140,000 raised for the organization.
So what drew the fans to the stands? Included in the line-up were NHL greats Doug Gilmour, Paul Coffey, Mike Bissonnette (a Welland native), and more. Cheers roared through the Jack as the names of childhood heroes echoed through the sound system, but our very own Ice Dogs received the same warm welcome. Adding some diversity to the ice, Members of Parliament from across Canada laced up their skates as well as some local greats who have played on varsity teams throughout North America.
With the witty banter of veteran NHL referee Ron Hogarth going back and forth with Anaheim Mighty Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau, the night was entertaining to say the least.
A great success for the United Way and another successful year of St. Catharines Member of Parliament Rick Dykstra’s annual event. After last evenings event the total raised since the event’s inception is more than $365,000. We will see you in the stands for Hockey Night in St. Catharines 4!
