Many, many months and $759 million since its birth, Niagara’s new hospital is officially complete. Ontario Health Minister Deb Matthew’s recent tour was the icing on the cake for a project that will mean a quantum leap forward for region residents.
All major departments in the 980,000 square foot-plus facility are complete with just another few months of work required to install CT scanners and cancer radiation machines, internal wi-fi and information networks etc. before we’ll be able to enjoy its services.
While all facilities will be welcomed by Niagara residents, there is perhaps none more important that the oncology area. Once it is functional, people undergoing treatment for cancer will no longer be forced to make the long and often uncomfortable drive to Hamilton.
Equipment and patients will make the official move from the St. Catharines General Hospital to the new site on March 24th.
