Les Marmitons Niagara is the local chapter of an international organization committed to all things gastronomy. This social club spans several decades and has numerous North American chapters, each with its own series of events to celebrate fine wine and the culinary arts. The Niagara chapter is known for its championing of local food, support of the culinary industry in Niagara and regular meetings at the Canadian Food and Wine Institute where they indulge in a chef’s demonstration, and participate themselves, to prepare their meal for the evening.
The uniform of the club is a Chef’s jacket and an official Les Marmitons toque, demonstrating the hierarchy of membership with a very Canadian fashion statement. Amongst the contributions of Les Marmitons Niagara to the local community is the development of a scholarship fund for culinary students at the local Canadian Food and Wine Institute. The funds for this are raised at an annual gala event, which features the finest in Niagara cuisine for a crowd that knows how to appreciate it! The scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate excellence in the culinary field. The student award ceremony will be held later this month and a few exceptional young chefs will be recipients!
If a monthly gathering with a group of like-minded foodies sounds like something you would be interested in, Les Marmitons Niagara can be found online at www.lesmarmitons.org. On this site you will learn about the organization, the commitment of the membership and the outstanding culinary events that your membership will gain you access to. And while this is a boy’s club, the large-scale annual event is open for all to attend!
