Bruce Trail Hike-A-Thon Underway!

By on 0

The Bruce Trail Hike-A-Thon is already halfway done, but has blown past the initial goal and is still climbing! Starting at the beginning of August, participants were asked to set a goal, collect donations, and then hike the Bruce Trail as much as they could with a chance to win the “Most Kilometres Hiked” prize. From the looks of things, there are some extremely passionate hikers looking to preserve the wondrous nature that is the Bruce Trail.

Just because the goal has been reached doesn’t mean there isn’t so much more to do. The next few weekends still have planned bus hikes, so if you are more of a social hiker, than this is definitely something you will want to check out. There are also opportunities to share your best photos on Instagram and tell your favourite stories on Facebook.

If all this talk has gotten you in the mood for a hike, here are some quick tips to help you on the trail:

Sample Gear Checklist A Few Basic Safety Tips
Water (lots of it!) Stay on the trail
Food Set a reasonable pace and take
breaks as needed
Warm Layers Hike in a group or with a buddy
Sunscreen If in doubt, turn back. If the
weather looks like it might turn or
you are tiring quickly, make a
responsible choice.
First Aid Kit In the case of a lightning storm,
make your way to shelter
immediately.
Insect Repellant
Extra Change of Clothes
Ziplock Bags
Flashlight
Trail Map

The Summer months are quickly coming to an end, so use that as an incentive to get out of the house and enjoy the world around you!
