Making its way across the country, the Rogers Hometown Hockey tour will be making an exciting stop in downtown St. Catharines on December 13 and 14. Starting at the steps of City Hall at 12 pm, this two-day celebration promises to provide visitors and enthusiasts with plenty of hockey themed activities.
The biggest feature of the event will be the Sunday night conclusion. Canadian icon Ron MacLean, along with Tara Slone, Darcy Tucker and Josh Gorges, will host a live onsite pre-game show, starting at 7:30 pm, before the Calgary Flames face off against the Chicago Blackhawks.
It’s well-known that the city is home to the St. Catharines Saints, a former affiliate team for the Toronto Maple Leafs. St. Catharines has also fostered many brilliant goalies in the CHL and Ben Vanderkloc, who is the head goalie coach of the Niagara IceDogs, was named the Nashville predators goaltending coach in June 2014.
This weekend will serve to acknowledge the city’s amazing hockey history and will have plenty of things to do for visitors of all ages. Some notable activities will be the personalized hockey pucks from the Samsung photo booth, the McDonald’s Ball Hockey Rink with pick-up games and competitions and the Xbox One gaming area with hockey titles, prizes and giveaways.
Make sure to throw on your favourite jersey and slather on the face paint before you head out to cheer on your favourite team.
