The Niagara Wine Festival

By on 172

Niagara is on the cusp of an annual celebration that brings the residents to the streets and wineries and parks to show their love for the Niagara wine industry and its many facets. This year the event appears to be larger than ever before and will feature the time-tested favourite events alongside new additions in their inaugural year.

Affectionately remembered by the locals as the Grape and Wine Festival, this event has been a part of life in Niagara for 61 years.  It caters to all demographics with activities for people aged 1 to 100. Here’s a look at a few highlights that you can’t miss at this year’s Niagara Wine Festival.

Pied Piper Parade – Saturday September 22 at 11am

Queen & Lake in St. Catharines

The theme for 2012 is Storybook Characters Come to Life, and the children of Niagara will be out in costume to depict their favourite storybook characters. Dress the kids up for their chance to win great prizes and meet storybook characters in Montebello Park.

There is a procession of marching bands, community groups, majorettes, drum corps and more. This event is the highlight of the biggest day for the festival as the parade-goers fill Montebello Park to enjoy the inflatables, characters, activities and more for the kids, and of course the wine and food aplenty located in the park!
