On September 28, 2011 star-gazers didn’t have to go very far to spot big name celebrities. The Steve Christie Celebrity Charity Golf Invitational had a glittering lineup of players that gathered to enjoy one of Niagara’s most beautiful courses while helping to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training (TNT) an organization intent on raising as much money as possible for cancer patients and their families. To date, TNT has raised more than $1 billion for lifesaving cancer research, trained nearly half a million runners, walkers, triathletes, cyclists and hikers and is now involved in more than 200 endurance events.
Among the sports stars taking part in the Steve Christie Celebrity Charity Golf Invitational were Danny Gare of the Buffalo Sabres, Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons, now Vice-Chair for the Toronto Argonauts, their former head coach and a 12-season veteran with the team, Marcel Dionne long-time star of the Detroit Redwings, Steve Tasker of the Buffalo Bills, CFL Quarterback all-star Damon Allen and of course, Steve Christie himself, a famed CFL placekicker.
There were many sponsors that helped to make the event a huge success. Cork’s Wine Bar and Eatery supplied the shirts, Reif Estates Winery supplied the wine, Great Lakes Brewery supplied the beer and Sotheby’s and Billy Simkin were hole sponsors.
The winning team was Darren Bennett (San Diego Chargers Alumni), Kurt Hamm, Paul Dickson and Billy Warren!
