You might think that just staying afloat on a wakeboard would be enough to impress the crowds but no. The competitors in the Wakeboard and Wakeskate Cable series held in Port Colborne this weekend added a whole lot more to their performances as they vied for the top prizes. Skidding madly along raised ramps, they spun, jumped, and did huge airborne flips to the cheers of the wakeboarding enthusiasts gathered for the event.
A part of the Roots Wake Series, the Port Colborne event drew the top wakeboarders and wakeskaters from across Ontario to compete in what was the first-ever Cable Wakeboard and Wakeskate Provincial Championships. The competition included categories for boarders of all ages – from newbie’s to a ‘masters’ division for those over fifty – and drew crowds of spectators.
The winners of Sunday’s competition at Niagara Boarder Pass in Port Colborne – Ontario’s newest wakeboarding facility – have now headed to Quebec for the national championships to be held Aug. 23 to 26.
