Don Cherry

It was half an hour before the doors opened and there was already a line out the door, as eager fans waited for their chance to meet a hockey legend. The new Don Cherry’s Sports Grill had recently opened at 7389 Lundy’s Lane in Niagara Falls and Don Cherry himself had come to sign autographs and shake hands.

As a surprise, the winning motorcycle of 2005’s TSN NHL Canadian Chopper Challenge was also on the scene.  The cycle was created by Bob McKay of Mckay’s Cycle Creations. He has been in the motorcycle business since 1970 and has customized hundreds of cycles.

With time restraints and overwhelming interest, not all fans were able to meet Cherry, but managers of the event and restaurant did their best to keep the line flowing. Many were able to have their jerseys, books and pictures signed which put a smile on everyone’s face. Don Cherry will always be the colourful hockey commentator we will never forget.
