One of the most incredible celebrations of the region is finally here, so fill a glass, take a sip and dive head first into the 2014 Niagara Wine Festival.
The excitement has been growing this week in anticipation of Montebello Park being completely done up in everything wine related. An extensive list of wineries are preparing their best wines for visitors from the Niagara Region and beyond. it doesn’t end there though. The new Niagara Grower Grape King, Kevin Buis, will also be on site for the Grape King Installation, paying homage to the efforts of farmers across the region. Nothing pairs better with a glass of wine, than some delicious food and some thrilling live bands. There will even be plenty of activities for the little ones to make it a complete family event.
The Pied Piper Parade – Saturday, September 21
The Pied Piper Parade will be very special this year as Mr. Grape will finally be retiring and is passing on the torch to the new Grape Ambassador. Children are encouraged to dress in their grapey-est costume to help celebrate our Grape Growers in downtown St. Catharines. There will even be refreshments afterwards in the Niagara Inflatables Grapeland!
63rd Annual Meridian Grande Parade – Saturday, September 27
Definitely one of the biggest days of the festival, the Meridian Grande Parade offers a plethora of groups and processions, including marching bands, drum corps, community groups, majorettes, floats and amazing performances. Every year, the parade is able to draw out an incredible 100,000 spectators and is a fantastic way to bring some foot traffic to the downtown core. There will also be the Community Care Annual Harvest Drive, so make sure to bring out some food donations as last year donations reached a whopping 8,000 lbs of food to fill shelves at the local food banks.
The Centre Stage
One of the highlights of Montebello Park will be the wine festival’s Centre Stage. It will be host to a roster of chart topping Canadian artists like Royal Wood, Leah Daniels and Tebey. The fan favourites will also grace the stage such as The Caverners, Hotel California, Elton Rohn, Desire and The Wheat Kings. Admission is free, so don’t miss out!
