The 2012 edition of Canal Days was a success from start to finish – with thousands of visitors on hand to help celebrate, the small town really rolled out the red carpet. Old favourite events included the tall ships visit and the ever-popular Boat Parade of Lights when lighted boats of all kinds sailed the canal – a spectacular sight. Kids were thrilled, as usual, by the midway rides and games while the teenage crowd headed to the Much Music Dance on Friday night. New this year was the Royal Ontario Museum’s traveling starlab, an inflatable planetarium designed to help viewers explore the night sky and discover the wonders of the starry skies.
Buskers and other entertainers kept the streets hopping with impromptu shows, food vendors served up delectable treats and music lovers got a double helping of fun on Saturday night with performances by both Sloan and David Wilcox. The Sunday night crowd was wowed by a fireworks show by Michael Biancaniello and his crew from Redboss Pyrotechnics – the glittery highpoint for the Canal Day’s celebration.
