By on 0

With a new album just out, was a night of classics and fast hits to kick off the Niagara Wine Festival with Platinum Blonde in Montebello Park. The band took to the stage under bright lights, dressed in all white to rock out with a crowd of several thousand. It was as if time had stood still with powerhouse vocals ringing through the park while the locals sipped and savoured their way through the market-style gourmet offerings.

The band originated in 1983 and climbed up the album charts with hits including “Standing In The Dark”.  When they hit the opening notes, the crowd went wild. Other hits include “Not In Love”, later covered by Robert Smith (of The Cure) and Crystal Castles. The band sampled a few songs from their upcoming  and our prediction is that this one will make some waves as tried and true fans of the band erupted in applause after each new addition to the musical arsenal.

The evening was full of smiles and familiar faces as Niagara came out of the woodwork to celebrate with an annual affair that has, to date, never disappointed. Local foodie culture represented by Smoke’s Poutinerie, Coppola’s and other local favourites paired up with wineries from across Niagara to offer delicious dining options.  The best part?  We’re only halfway there!  You still have another weekend (and the upcoming weekend is the big one) to check out the festival and indulge in a slice of what Niagara has to offer.
